Transformation - Festival for art and spaces

Transformation is a new, yearly art festival that takes place in Billund Centret

Transformation aims to strengthen the cultural life of Billund Municipality by expanding the range of professional artistic experiences and increasing access to contemporary art outside the larger cities. The festival will create a new gathering place for art and culture, centred around Billund Centret – Vores Kulturhus.

The ambition is to develop a sustainable, locally rooted art festival, that supports the municipality’s efforts to create vibrant meeting places and an active cultural life. Billund Municipality has initiated the establishment of the festival, but the goal is for it to develop into an independent organisation within its first few years, with its own board and local engagement from citizens and institutions.

The festival uses art as a tool and as a means of activating and reimagining shared meeting places. Through installations, light and sound works, performances and video art, audiences are invited to experience familiar surroundings in new ways and encounter professional contemporary art in accessible settings. In doing so, the festival offers new perspectives on the spaces and functions of the place, while inviting reflection, dialogue and a sense of community around art.

Based at Billund Centret – Vores Kulturhus,
professional Danish and international artists are invited to create site-specific artworks and
artistic transformations of existing indoor and outdoor spaces.

In October, 5 artists will travel to Billund to live and work for 3 weeks. During their stay, their work will draw inspiration from the local area and culminate in an exhibition at Billund Centret as part of the festival

In addition to the work of the 5 artists, the festival will feature a curated programme of experiences, talks, debates, music, performances, food and drinks.

Transformation - Festival for art and spaces is an annual festival that returns every autumn at Billund Centret. Over time, the festival will gradually grow in size and expand into the city and surrounding urban space.

The festival is free and open for all.

In 2026 it will be artists Noelia Mora Solvez, Kirke Hundevad Meng, Jacob Juhl, Sif Hedegård and Astrid Helena Frej Møller, that work across sound, light, performance, video, sculpture and installation.
